Next morning I reached at the office of DS just when he was finishing his breakfast. I had seen his SMS first thing in the morning and rushed to his office. He wanted to see me as early as possible in the morning. A natural late-riser was fully prepared to leave for his mission at 7 in the morning.
‘When did you come back last night? Did you even get time to sleep? Seems you had got something there!’, I was not able to put back my curiosity.
‘Did you have your breakfast?’, he asked as if he did not hear anything what I said. I never understood what fun he received in irritating me, ‘Yes, I had. Now tell me where are we headed to?’

Instead of replying to my question DS forwarded a bunch of papers to me. I stared at him with questions in my eyes. ‘Go through them till I come back and we will talk about it. Hopefully I will have some good news for you and bad news for Inspector by evening.’, his smile was even wider when he said this. And whenever I saw this smile of his, I was sure that he had cracked the case and what remains is just collecting proofs.

‘Hey mate. So, how was the day?’, I was taken back from my thoughts by DS’ voice. The expression on his face clearly told me of his success. And here, I was even more confused after reading that strange bunch of papers.

‘So the case is solved?’, I asked impatiently.
‘It was already solved by the morning. All I needed was some more information and now everything is clear like a mirror. Rama has already been released and Police teams have been sent to arrest the real culprits.’, his joy was at its peak.
‘Ohh and who are they?’, I could not believe what he had just told me.
‘Hmm you see, it was a big conspiracy and one of its kind. But, before I start revealing facts, tell me one thing. Did you understand anything from those papers I gave you in the morning.’, DS was trying to test my patience.

The fact was that I was totally frustrated by now and asked in reply, ‘Those stupid papers which seemed like a will of a stupid old man? So stupid that he gave away all his wealth, which ran into millions, not to his son, but to his son’s friend? And with a strange condition that this friend of his son can get it only after his son dies? Wait, don’t tell me it is Anugrah’s father’s will, is it?’.
‘There you are. You got it right and it is this will which made these two young lads to conspire a fool-proof theory, at least they thought so but as it is said, however clever a criminal is, he always makes a mistake and it was this mistake, in fact in this case there were mistakes which lead them to jail.’ My intelligent friend was relieved now and enjoying his cigarette.

‘And you should not be surprised to hear that the first culprit is Anugrah himself, around whose dead body the entire story revolved.’. I almost jumped from my chair when I heard this. ‘And the second culprit is Anand, Anugrah’s friend who was supposed to get the money after Anugrah died.’

What was DS talking about? How could the deceased himself be the culprit? And why would his friend be a partner in crime when he was getting the entire money?
